Mission Statement

“To give the Indiana Avenue Stakeholder Community a tool by which they can ensure that their history and culture is encapsulated, enshrined, and drives whatever future development is planned for the Indiana Avenue Corridor.”

The Indiana Avenue Certified Strategic Plan is more than an urban development strategy; it is a journey toward healing and transformation for a community historically affected by systemic injustices like displacement, redlining, and segregation.

In the course of doing this work, we are seeking to reorient the perspective of decision-makers towards history and cultural continuity and thereby reframe the basis of built environment policy.

By understanding past successes and failures, this project aims to pave a new path rooted in the principles of reconciliation and reparations.

Our approach is deeply influenced by the BlackSpace Manifesto, ensuring an inclusive and reparative process.

Join the Indiana Avenue Certified Strategic Plan Facebook Group and Instagram, for project updates and to share personal experiences of Indiana Avenue’s history through photographs, stories, and comments.

In 2023, Indy DMD issued a Request for Expressions of Interest for the Indiana Avenue Certified Strategic Plan (IACSP). Of the responses received, EKLA PLLC, CJAM Consulting LLC, Creative Urban Alchemy, Rhodes Heritage Group, WXY Architecture + Urban Design, Indy Equity Collaborative, and Indiana Strategic Resource Group, national leaders in open-space design specifically for the preservative redevelopment of historical sites, was identified as a key partner. To inform the redevelopment process of Indiana Avenue, EKLA PLLC CJAM Consulting LLC, Creative Urban Alchemy, Rhodes Heritage Group, WXY, Indy Equity Collaborative, and Indiana Strategic Resource Group, with the guidance of Indy DMD, will lead the convening of IACSP’s community engagement efforts.
